VIP Day at Preschool

Isaac was recently the VIP at his preschool. He was so excited. What happens on VIP day? The start of the day is pretty much a normal day at preschool. The kids show up and for the first hour they have free play and they need to get their art project done. During this time Mrs. Spencer circles the room talking with the children and helping them play cooperatively. The parent helper, me, supervises the art table. On this day the art project was coloring Easter eggs that they would later use for an egg hunt.

After the first hour, the student have circle time where they do the calendar, count the students, and talk about the weather and then read a book. It just happened that today Isaac got to be the counter. There were 13 kids present, 3 absent. The kids do the math to figure this out and talk about their missing friends.



After the story, Mrs. Spencer had "Mr. VIP" come up to the front of the group and he got his VIP crown. (Saraya has since destroyed it which caused a small meltdown, but what can you do?) Mrs. Spencer asked Isaac to share his 5 special toys he brought to share. What did he bring? He brought his Spiderman and Spiderman's 4-wheeler, his Mickey Mouse toy he got in his box of Apple Jacks which Grandma Maria bought him, and two transformers. So Mrs. Spencer asked him questions about his toys and he told her where he got them.


The kids then asked the VIP questions. Some examples: "What is your favorite color? What do you like for breakfast? What is your favorite park?" Often the exchange went like this: "What is your favorite dinner?" "Macaroni and Cheese" - then from all over the room voices would say, "I like Macaroni and Cheese too" or "I like Pizza." or "I had Macaroni and Cheese last night." Then Mrs. Spencer would remind them that it was the VIP's turn to talk and be the center of attention.
After the share-out, it was snack time. Because Isaac was a VIP we could bring a sugar snack. I made sugar cookies.

After snack, the VIP got to lead the class in a parade around the room. Mrs. Spencer then gathered the kids back together and told Isaac that she was so happy he was VIP and she named some things that she liked about him: he is a good listener, he is a nice person, and he is very smart. It was really nice to hear and Isaac was so proud! Then the kids did some music, and then did an activity of moving streamers around according to the directions on the song. They did great!


Then, because it was a nice day, the kids got to go outside for the last 10 minutes and play in the fun playground.


Mrs. Spencer is a great teacher and the preschool is a wonderful place for Isaac. I am very grateful to Jodi for finding this preschool and for getting Isaac there everyday. It would not be possible for Isaac to go here if it weren't for her. Thanks Jodi!!
